I love this moment. I love this moment so fucking much - I don’t even care if you ship these two have a romantic relationship or a platonic one, it is actually impossible to deny that the two of them are hugely significant for one another and their relationship just plays out beautifully: Helena, the writer, deals in stories and characters and ambiguities; Myka, her reader, can still interpret them (her) and find layers of meaning.
And this moment! Just this moment- it’s the perfect first meeting, which isn’t a first meeting at all. Myka grew up reading HG Wells novels; she spots the connection in Helena’s ‘Edward Prendick’ which nobody - not in a house dedicated to HG Wells - has seen; she manages to trap HG with the ‘ring’/’ringtone’ American expression. They have a relationship which, from the outset, is rooted in a shared love of language, an awareness of meaning and of nuance, and this moment of affinity - with Helena echoing Myka’s words without even knowing it - is just perfect. They’re the same, but not; they’re different, but not, and Myka realises this over a fucking word. Echoes out of time, effect and cause looping around one another, stories upon stories - and people wonder why I like their relationship? This is their “something effulgent”, and it’s only one piece of their pattern (their story is already being told, they’re already telling their story).
I love words, I love wordplay, and Bering and Wells (Wells and Bering) build their relationship out of nuance, in the spaces between fact and fiction, speech and silence, connotation and detonation. This show, man, this fucking show- have I mentioned today how much I love it?

Pete: Hey Mykes, is it over?
Myka: Yeah, it’s over.
Pete: Do you feel better?
Myka: No.

25 DAYS OF BERING AND WELLS | Day 07 - Favorite Myka/HG quote from Season 2
Agent Bering, seems we’re forever destined to meet at gunpoint.
Death by feelings.

Myka: By the way, Pete… comparing you to Watson is actually a compliment.
Pete: Yeah, how’s that?
Myka: Well, first of all, John Watson’s a Doctor. So he’s smart, capable and most importantly, compassionate. As a detective, Sherlock Holmes has a tendency to be somewhat cold and calculating. Watson humanizes him. That’s what makes them such good partners.

Whatever it is that you two do… it’s exactly what you were meant to be doing. You’re a good team.
